PVology ValueLens
- How to add a value opportunityIn Value choose New opportunity, enter the Title and fill in Need, Required function, Current situation, Expected outcome and Potential benefit, then choose Create opportunity.
- How to agree the study charter and teamIn the Preparation phase fill in the Study charter (need, purpose, objectives, success criteria, scope, constraints, assumptions, people, dates, currency, discount rate and study period) and choose Save charter or Approve as version N. Add people under Study team.
- How to analyse functions and build a FAST diagramIn Function analysis choose Add a function: an active verb and a measurable noun, its class, its "why" function, cost and worth. PVology shows worth ÷ cost and wording checks, and draws the FAST diagram from the why links, with an outline for screen readers and Move up / Move down controls.
- How to develop a value proposal with life-cycle costIn Development open a proposal and describe the current and proposed solution, benefits, disadvantages and effects on performance, quality, safety, risk and stakeholders. Enter life-cycle cost items for both; PVology shows present value, life-cycle saving and simple payback with the formula.
- How to explore the sample value studyWhen Value is empty choose Explore sample data. It adds sample opportunities and a complete study, Customer Water-Leak Response, that shows every phase from charter to realized value. Sample records are marked SAMPLE and never count toward your totals.
- How to generate ideas and evaluate themIn Creativity record every idea for each function without judging (scores stay hidden). In Evaluation rate ideas 1 to 5 on visible weighted criteria, individually or as a team; PVology shows the weighted score, flags mandatory criteria below threshold and shows sensitivity to weight changes.
- How to get started with PVology ValueOpen Applications → Value. It keeps a value opportunity register built on the PVology Value Lens: start from the need and the required function, then the outcome and value, before choosing a solution.
- How to present proposals and record decisionsIn Presentation choose Mark as presented, then a person who can approve records the Decision (approve, approve with conditions, defer or reject) with a reason, the approved value, conditions, implementation owner and follow-up date. Open the printable study report from the same page.
- How to start a value studyIn Value choose New value study. Pick a linked project (optional) or describe the subject, choose the kind of study, write the need and purpose, name the sponsor, facilitator and decision maker, then choose Create study.
- How to track a value opportunity through to realizationMove the opportunity's Status from Identified to Under review, Approved, In progress and finally Realized, and choose Save changes each time. Numeric benefit tracking is not available yet.
- How to use the PVology Value LensThe Value Lens is four questions shown at the top of PVology Value: Need (what is really needed, and by whom?), Function (what must be achieved, verb + noun?), Outcome (what changes?) and Value (is the benefit worth the resources?).
- PVology Value: common questionsValue needs the application in your plan and, in an organization, a licence. AI help inside Value is not available yet. Sample opportunities can be added and removed, and Export CSV downloads your records.
- What are the eight phases of a value study?A value study follows the Job Plan: Preparation, Information, Function analysis, Creativity, Evaluation, Development, Presentation and Implementation. PVology shows them as numbered steps at the top of every study, each marked Not started, In progress, Complete, Reopened or Needs review.
- What do identified, recommended, approved, forecast, realized and verified value mean? They are separate stages that PVology never adds together: identified (estimates on opportunities), recommended (proposals put forward), approved (accepted by the decision maker), forecast (expected after approval), realized (measured with evidence) and verified (confirmed by an approver).
- Where are value studies with function analysis and alternatives?Value studies live in PVology Projects: open a project and choose the Value tab. Recommendations from a study can be shared back to PVology Value with Share with PVology Value.
